Getting started

The dock at the bottom of the screen takes you to the four main pages:

  • Summary - today at a glance: calories, macros and water against your goals, this week's training and how far your weight and one-rep max goals are.
  • Nutrition - any day's meals and water (step through days with the arrows), fasting, your calorie trend and averages, goals met and meal templates.
  • Workout plans - your plans, the running workout, your training days, muscle groups and one-rep max goals.
  • Body - your weight with its trend and goal, and your body measurements.

The + button next to the dock opens Quick actions, where you log anything. The menu button at the top holds settings, language and theme, and this Help Center, the Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy and About us.

Open the menu at the top and go to Settings → General. There you set your language, metric or imperial units and your time zone. GainzLog counts your days in your time zone, so set it if you travel or moved.

Yes. Under Settings → General pick a Homepage: Summary, Nutrition or Workouts. It is the page you land on when you log in or open the app.

Yes - add it to your Home Screen and it opens like any other app, full screen. The install guide walks you through it on an iPhone. On Android, open the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. Get the app (also in the menu) has every option in one place.

Goals give your charts and the Summary page a target: daily calories, protein, carbs, fat, water and a target weight. Set them with the goal button on the Nutrition page. When you change a goal, the old one stays in your history.

Not sure where to start? Fill in your body profile (height, birth year, sex and activity level) and the same page suggests a calorie target you can set as your goal.

Logging food and body

Tap + and choose Log meal. Enter the name, calories and, if you know them, protein, carbs, fat and weight. Pick a meal category (breakfast, lunch, ...) to keep your day tidy.

A meal template is a meal you eat often, saved once. When you log a meal, pick the template and its values are filled in; change the weight and they scale with it. Create one with Create meal template in Quick actions.

For a recipe, use Build from parts: add each ingredient and GainzLog saves the total.

Tap + and choose Log water, Log weight or Log measurements. For measurements, fill in only the ones you measured - waist, chest, hips, arms, thighs or body fat. Your progress per measurement is on the Body page.

Not sure where to put the tape? Tap How to measure in the measurements form for a short guide to each one.

Yes. Every log form has a switch to set a different time - turn it on and pick when it happened. A workout you forgot goes in with Log a past workout on the Workout plans page, a fast with Log a past fast in the fasting history.

Meals and water: open Nutrition, step to the day and use the edit or delete button next to the entry. Weight and measurements: on Body (the newest ones) or in their History. Every list also has a History page that goes back further.

Log as usual - starting or ending a fast works too. GainzLog keeps the entry on your phone and sends it once you are back online - with the time you logged it, not the time it was sent.

Fasting

Tap + and choose Start fast, or use the fasting card on the Nutrition page. Pick how long you want to fast - a common length or any whole number of hours up to 72. Already started a while ago? Turn on I started earlier and set when.

While you fast, the header shows the time left and the fasting card shows how far you are.

No - a fast ends by itself when it reaches its target, so there is nothing to stop. If you want to eat sooner, tap End fast on the fasting card; it stays in your history as ended early. If your devices get notifications (Settings → Reminders), GainzLog tells you when a fast is complete.

Tap History on the fasting card. There you see every fast with its length and whether you reached the target, edit or delete one, and log a fast you did not track with Log a past fast. Fasts can't overlap, and only one can run at a time.

The fasting history also shows your last 30 days of fasting: how many fasts you finished, how many reached their target and their average length.

Workouts

On Workout plans create a plan, then add exercises with a target of sets and reps (or seconds, for timed exercises). If an exercise is missing from the list, create your own right from the picker - it is added at once, even in a running workout. Edit or delete your own exercises under My exercises.

Want a variation of a plan? Open it and tap Duplicate plan to edit a copy.

Tap + and choose Start workout - from a plan, or a free session where you add exercises as you go. For each set enter the weight and reps and mark it done. GainzLog then asks how hard it was (RPE, on a scale from 5 - light - to 10 - all you had - in half steps); you can skip it.

Under each set you see what you did last time (for example "Last: 80 kg × 8"), and new sets are filled in from it, so usually you only adjust the numbers.

The running workout stays open while you use the rest of the app - the header shows its timer. Finish it when you are done, with a note if you like.

When you mark a set done, a rest countdown starts. Add 15 seconds or Skip it; until it is over, the next set can't be marked done. At zero your phone beeps and vibrates, and if you allow notifications you get one even when the app is in the background.

Set how long you rest under Settings → Workout.

Open the workout under History and tap Edit workout. You can change when it started, how long it took, the notes and every set; nothing changes until you press Save.

Forgot to log a workout? Tap Log a past workout on the Workout plans page, pick its plan if it had one, and fill it in the same way.

Your finished workouts are under History on the Workout plans page. Open an exercise to see its progress: the weights you lifted, your volume and your estimated one-rep max over time.

When you beat your best weight or estimated one-rep max (or, for timed exercises, your longest time) on an exercise, the workout gets a PR badge for it and GainzLog congratulates you when you finish.

Account and settings

Under Settings → Reminders switch on the reminders you want - to drink water, log your meals, train, start your fast, log your weight or your body measurements - and pick the time and days. Devices you turn notifications on for also get told when a fast is complete. Your browser asks for permission to send notifications; allow it. On an iPhone, reminders only work when GainzLog is added to the Home Screen.

Open the menu at the top and pick Light or Dark under Theme. The choice is kept on each device.

On the login page tap Forgot password? and we email you a link to set a new one. If you are logged in, change it under Settings → General.

Under Settings → Privacy you can download all your data as a file, see and sign out the devices you stay logged in on, and delete your account with everything in it. More in the Privacy Policy.

No. Logging, goals, charts and history are free. Paid plans only raise limits, such as the number of meal templates and workout plans and how far back charts and history reach. If you go back to the free plan, nothing is deleted.
